My apartment had wood/carpenter bees move into our stairs this summer. They were right under the first step and would get angry any time we opened our door or the neighbor opened theirs or we came up/down the stairs. Eventually they started swarming(?) any time we walked and stinging people and I learned that I’m not allergic to that kind of bee. The manager called an exterminator and killed them all. I feel bad now because I really tried my best to tolerate/not disturb them. I feel guilty
While carpenter bees are a huge pollinator, they can be a nuisance when they set up camp in certain areas (like stairs). Oftentimes I will suggest dousing the holes with WD-40 during the day so that the bees don’t want to come back to them. This sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t. Just don’t stick around after you spray it just in case there was one inside.
