With the frames you use – is there mesh that they build the comb on, or is it just a hollow frame and they fill the whole thing up? I've always been mildly curious
I checkerboard my frames usually.
One will be empty, the next will have a plastic sheet in the middle, the next will be empty, the next will have a sheet in the middle, and so on. This really helps keep them building on the frames correctly and also gives more strength to the frames with plastic centers.
Some of my hives are 100% raw natural comb on the frames though. It just my super hive that has alternating frame types.
